Getting Started in Affiliate
Marketing
Affiliate marketing is a great way to earn passive income from home.
While the industry is still relatively new, there are people who
have made quite a bit of money by promoting affiliate programs. It
may take some time to develop a steady income, but you can do it.
Here are some tips for getting started in affiliate marketing:
Research Your Target Market
Before you spend a lot of time and energy building a website to
promote an affiliate program, make sure that there is a target
market willing to buy the products. You can use a keyword search
tool, such as wordtracker to see if people are searching for the
topics you would like to build a website around.
You can also look for similar websites to the type you would like to
build. If there are a lot of websites that cater to that market, you
know people are interested in the things you want to promote.
However, if you can’t find anything similar, there may not be an
active market.
Research Affiliate Programs
You will also want to research affiliate programs before you start
promoting them. There may be several programs that offer similar
products. Compare the price and quality of the products, as well as
what you would earn in commission.
Create A Content-filled Website
When you build your website, fill it with lots of quality content.
This will help the search engines find your site and send you free
traffic. If the people that stumble upon your site find it helpful
and informative, they are more likely to return. The more time
someone spends on your site, the more likely it is that they will
become your customer.
Promote Complimentary Products
If your site has information about taking care of newborn infants,
think about complimentary products new parents would be interested.
Obviously, they would want baby products, but new moms may also be
interested in products that help them get back in shape and nursing
bras.
Start A Blog
In addition to a website, you may want to consider starting a blog.
People like to read them, and it gives you an opportunity to connect
with your target market. This will help build trust; when people
trust you, they are more likely to buy products from you.
Use Pay-Per-Click Advertising
While the content on your site will help you gain free search engine
traffic, you can also use pay-per-click advertising, such as
Google’s Adwords. With these type of programs, you can bid on
"keywords" that your target market will likely use when searching
for the type of products you are promoting. Your ads will appear as
"sponsored links" in the search engine results. You only have to pay
when someone clicks on your ad.
